pix pix Organisation of the Horst Görtz Institute for IT security

The HGI consists of:

pix pix The chair of Cryptology and IT Security (CITS)

The CITS group's research focuses on cryptology and its application in IT security. This includes, for instance, design and analysis of cryptographic primitives and their interaction with cryptographic protocols. In cryptology, the analysis of algorithmic aspects is combined with classical mathematics.

In addition, the CITS group works on the practical application of cryptographic schemes. Numerous projects in cooperation with industry are currently conducted.

pix pix The chair of communication security (COSY)

The COSY group works on the engineering aspects of modern IT security and cryptography. A particular focus is security in embedded applications. The group is among the international leaders in the area of efficient software and hardware implementation of crypto schemes. Other research areas include security in mobile applications and IT security in the automotive supply chain. Prof. Paar co-founded the CHES (Cryptographic Hardware and Embedded Systems) Workshop series, which has become the central forum for applied cryptography.

pix pix Applied Data Security Research Group (Prosec)

The group's research focus is on applied cryptography including the
following issues:

  • Design and security analysis of cryptographic and security protocols
  • Conception of security architectures
  • Trusted Computing and implementation of secure platforms as well as
  • Design of Digital Rights Management systems

pix pix The chair of network and data security (NDS)

The NDS group started research and development on September 1st, 2003. Main research areas include:

  • Network Security: Key management for multicast networks, OSI Layer 2 security, advanced IPSec issues.
  • Data Security: XML Signature and Encryption is seen as a unifying framework for data security techniques like PKCS#7, OpenPGP and other file encryption systems.
  • Content Security: Pay-TV systems provide us with a long history of hacking and hacking countermeasures; this will help improving new content protection schemes. XML as the lingua france of rights management will also play an important role here.

pix pix The institute for E-Business Security (ISEB)

ISEB is one of the HGI's sections which researches in the business and economic implications of security in e-business applications. The aim is to make e-business more secure and, ultimately, to support the spread of e-business. The current work deals with the economical analysis and organisational aspects of IT security. The ISEB institute consists of seven chairs in the Business Administration and Economics Department.
